Mr. Ram Mohan is the founder of inBAC. Ram has over twenty-five years of diverse business experience in venture development, startups and large corporations, in the US and globally.

Ram founded a website localization software/service company in 1999 which he sold a year later. He then joined NEC Corporation of America to start their technology incubation program, under which NEC commercialized several of their intellectual assets through spinouts and licenses. He was also a member of NEC’s Corporate Planning and Venture Liaison groups, and co-managed NEC’s Corporate fund to fund investment activities, which included investments in eleven different venture funds. Ram has also served on the board of three companies.

Ram has extensive experience in hands-on entrepreneurship training.  In 1991, he produced and distributed a four-part audio training program for rental agents.  He has trained, and continues to train entrepreneurs all around the world in hands-on free-market business startups. He has been a speaker in a number of conferences and seminars worldwide.

Ram has served and continues to serve as a technology review expert on several technology panels in the US and abroad.

Ram has an MBA degree in Finance from Alabama A&M University, backed by a BS degree in Business and a BS degree in legal education from India. He has further enhanced his credentials with an executive education at Harvard Business School, studying Disruptive Business Models and Open Innovation, under Prof. Clayton Christensen and Dr. Henry Chesbrough.

Dr. Tapio Koivu is the Executive Vice President of VTT Ventures, Finland, and serves as a Board member at inBAC.

Prior to becoming an officer of VTT Ventures, Tapio was the Vice President of VTT’s North American Operations and was responsible for launching several co-operative projects and research exchanges between Finland and the US.

He has worked on several research projects globally, including in the Norwegian Building Research Institute, Oslo, Sweden; Shimizu Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan; and, Stanford University, Palo Alto, California While at Stanford, he did joint work on global project management on developing business for European FM/AEC software vendors in the US as well as arranged strategic business programs for European management teams to the San Francisco bay area.  He received his Ph.D. from Tampere University of Technology after MSc studies at the Helsinki University of Technology.

Mr. Will Cardwell is the CEO of Technopolis Ventures in Helsinki, and serves as a Board member at inBAC.

Formerly, Will was a Partner at Conor Venture Partners. He has a background in management, venture capital and investment banking and research. His professional responsibilities have included roles as CEO of a software company, Valimo Wireless, as well as “C” level positions with Eqvitec Venture Partners and the Helsinki School of Economics.

He holds an MBA degree from Helsingin Kauppakorkeakoulu and is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. Will has lived in Finland since 1996.

Dr. Baldev Krishan is a Senior Partner at inBAC.  Baldev has over 25 years of experience in management, business development, engineering, product development, marketing and sales.

Baldev founded six startups in the San Francisco bay area, including OmniTel and Encanto Networks which were acquired and Shimon Systems Inc. Baldev was twice nominated as an entrepreneur of the year.  Prior to starting OmniTel, he worked in various engineering and management positions at Anderson Jacobson, Racal Vadic, and ROLM/IBM. One of his companies was listed by INC. magazine among the 500 fastest growing companies in the USA. In the last twenty-five years, he has raised funds for companies dealing with variety of technologies (involving software, hardware and firmware) including telephone modems, wireless messaging, Web server, Java applets, and network access/password management using biometrics. Baldev also has been awarded ten patents to his credit.

Baldev holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Punjab University, an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Montana State University.

Dr. Babak Alizadeh is a Senior Partner at inBAC with over 26 years of experience in life sciences including 13 years in the biotech industry.

As a life sciences entrepreneur and executive Babak has been involved with some of the most significant areas of the biotech and medical devices industry including epigenetics, RNA interference, circulating tumor cells, microarrays, personalized genomics, biomarker discovery, and micro-fluidic as well as magnetic cell separation systems for stem cells and rare cells.

Most recently at MediBIC, a publicly traded Japanese company he helped in managing a Corporate Venture Capital fund. He has been instrumental in helping raise several million dollars in finance for startup companies from both grant and investment sources.  Additionally, during the course of his career he has held responsibilities in research, quality control, product development, operations, licensing, business development (between Japanese, European and American organizations), plus incubation center development and management.

He is the co-author of numerous awarded industry grant proposals and was a finalist in the prestigious Annual UC Berkeley Business Plan Writing Competition at the Haas School of Business.   Strategically located in the heart of the San Francisco bay area where major advancements in medicine and electronics have come to life, Babak manages inBAC’s life sciences interests, holding close ties with distinguished clinicians, top executives, eminent pioneers and venture capital fund managers. He also oversees inBAC’s expanding practice outside the biotech and medical devices sector including wireless smart suits, BioMEMs semi-conductor surface diagnostics, automated food tasting, biofuels, and healthcare software.

Babak completed his Ph.D. and post-doctoral training at Stanford University where he resides on the board of governors of the Alumni Association of the School of Medicine.  Earlier he did his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
